From the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director
Colleagues:
We are pleased to communicate that we are beginning a brand new Internal Medicine Residency Program at Hannibal Regional in the scenic river town of Hannibal, Missouri! Hannibal is a picturesque community on the Mississippi River in the heart of the Midwest, geographically positioned as a great place to live and work, located between St. Louis to the south, Kansas City to the west, and Chicago to the north… made famous by the writings of Mark Twain and the exciting adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Your future adventures with us in graduate medical education promise to be just as exciting!
Our lifelong learning community at Hannibal Regional is engaged and ready to welcome you as a prospective resident physician colleague, from international, osteopathic or allopathic medical student pathways! Our many adventures in building a new Graduate Medical Education Enterprise will build upon the accomplishments Hannibal Regional has already achieved with affiliations and working partnerships with medical schools in the region. Our medical students have really enjoyed their many experiences at Hannibal Regional in diverse settings in undergraduate medical education, working alongside our experienced and esteemed staff, nurses, physicians, and leadership.
Our new program in internal medicine will set you up for success with coaching and mentoring throughout your time in Graduate Medical Education as you continue to grow in patient care, medical education, and scholarship roles as a physician. We will equip physicians as leaders for their multifaceted futures in the delivery of excellent healthcare to our patients, families, and communities in the region. Our community-based program will give you tremendous opportunities in delivering healthcare, understanding chronic disease management, using state of the art technology, benefiting from excellent teaching from skilled staff and physicians, and growing as a leader with your new resident physician colleagues following your medical school experiences. You will have many opportunities to present your work with your colleagues at local, regional, and national meetings while preparing for employment or fellowships in Internal Medicine. During this exciting adventure, you will experience tremendous growth as a resident physician while we foster your continuous learning and career professional development in the new program!
We welcome your application on the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please use that portal to fully prepare and then send us your completed application according to ERAS processes and the ERAS timeline.

2026 Main Residency Match Applicants Calendar
On a personal and professional note, I am excited to be leading the new program in Internal Medicine, after developing and implementing a number of new Graduate Medical Education programs in multiple specialties and settings across my career. Internal Medicine is a phenomenal specialty, and you will enjoy the tremendous opportunities and challenges it presents throughout your own career as you meet patients and provide evidence-based diagnoses and cutting edge therapies. As a physician, I benefited greatly from joining a new residency program and becoming a trailblazing pioneer leader alongside my resident and faculty colleagues in the development of that new residency program and the new specialty of Hospital Medicine.
New startups are exciting, and we are looking for dedicated resident physicians for our Inaugural Class, starting June 2026, who want to share that excitement while engaging in this new adventure with us at Hannibal Regional! Please check out our website in the weeks ahead and contact us at IMResidency@hannibalregional.org with your interest and questions as you consider the exciting next steps of your career professional journey to the future!
With best regards and a sense of excitement!
