Hannibal Regional Laboratory has achieved accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), following a comprehensive on-site inspection conducted as part of CAP’s Accreditation Programs. Recognized for rigorous and robust standards, CAP accreditation enhances quality, reduces risk, and supports improved patient outcomes through laboratory excellence.
During the unannounced inspection of the laboratory over 1,500 CAP requirements were reviewed and the Hannibal Regional Laboratory was found to be over 99% compliant with the requirements. “This accreditation reflects the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our entire laboratory team to deliver high quality laboratory services,” said Dr. Harsha Desai, Laboratory Medical Director. “We are dedicated to maintaining excellence in our processes, ensuring accurate and timely results for our patients, and supporting the healthcare needs of our community.”
The CAP accreditation process is designed to uphold the highest level of care for laboratory patients. Inspectors examine laboratory records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety measures, and overall management practices. These evaluations ensure laboratories align with the latest best practices and industry standards.
With over 23,000 laboratory participants globally, CAP not only provides accreditation but also offers proficiency testing, quality improvement tools, and evidence-based protocols. Leveraging the expertise of pathologists, CAP partners with laboratories worldwide to drive operational excellence, enhance diagnostic accuracy, and deliver superior patient care.
Hannibal Regional Laboratory’s accreditation reflects its commitment to quality and its vital role in supporting the health and well-being of the community.
