Hannibal Regional Foundation hosted the 29th annual Hannibal Cannibal, officially sponsored by Advance Physical Therapy, on July 6 and this year was certainly one that will always be remembered. Highway 79 viaduct construction and the potential for flooding helped to bolster the craziness of the Hannibal Cannibal. The opportunity to run this once in a life time course due to the 79 construction, helped to boost registrations to nearly 1800 participants, helping raise a new all-time high of over $72,000. The $72,000 raised from this year’s race is supporting Hannibal Regional Foundation’s Heart Hero Campaign, which is raising funds to support Hannibal Regional’s new Heart Center and new services offered at the heart center, including open heart surgery.
The success of the Cannibal would not be possible without the many sponsors, volunteers and participants, and the Foundation offers their sincere appreciation to all that made this event possible. Additionally, this year more than ever, the support of local law enforcement, emergency management, city officials, department of transportation and others was instrumental in navigating the many changes due to the 79 viaduct construction and flood waters. The Cannibal craziness was certainly embraced this year and will be a year to always remember.
