The Final Salute program is a powerful send-off offered to honor military veterans who are patients at Hannibal Regional. If a veteran passes away at Hannibal Regional, this moving send-off recognizes their passing. Once the patient’s loved ones have been notified, the veteran will be draped in a patriotic blanket hand crafted by Auxiliary members. This blanket is given as a gift to the veteran’s loved ones in appreciation of their service.
As the veteran and their loved ones leave the hospital, “Taps” is played overhead. This is a signal for health care workers, visitors, and fellow soldiers to line the hallways for the veteran’s final salute. Civilians stand with their hand on their heart, while veterans and active military give the military salute to pay honor and respect. Hannibal Regional is grateful to everyone who has served our country and is proud to offer this final tribute for them. To all who serve or have served, Hannibal Regional thanks you for your service to this country.
